Deliver in Ampang Puteri with Dr Marsita Mansor

For our second baby, we chose hospital yang paling dekat dengan rumah. Ampang Puteri Specialist Hospital. The delivery package seems quite reasonable:

KPJ Ampang Puteri-Maternity Package

Maternity Package in Ampang Puteri

I chose Dr. Marsita Mansor cos I thought she was the only female gynecologist. Taktau pulak Dr. Marsita ni fofular! And tak tau pulak Ampang Puteri ada 4 female gynea! There is Dr Fauziah (she is very busy – the obgyn for Rozita Che Wan), Dr. Ariza and Dr. Zalina.

Anyway, Dr Marsita has her own clinic in Taman Melati.

Klinik Pakar Wanita Medina
No. 67, Jalan Melati Utama 4, Melati Utama, Setapak, Wilayah Persekutuan 53100 Kuala Lumpur
+60 3-4106 6990

Yang best pasal Dr Marsita ni, even when you dah berjanggut tunggu dia kat luar, once you see her, all your anger akan hilang. She just have that kind of presence yang macam mak mak gitu. Plus point is, she always advice to have natural birth. No epidural, no induce.
However, she’s only a visiting doctor in Ampang Puteri, not in house. Her clinic is only open on Tuesdays in Ampang Puteri. Other days, you need to go to her clinic to see her. So usually if you want to be admitted, she will ask you to go to her clinic first to make sure its not false alarm.
But considering our house is nearer to Ampang Puteri, we decided not to go and just wait for our next appointment with her there. Alhamdullilah masa jumpa dia I was already 5 cm dilated and they pushed me straight to labour room.

In the labour room
After dah get ready (pass motion, on CTG), I mintak nak walk around in the room , to speed up the contraction. Masa dah 7-8 cm tu baru start rasa contraction. And it was really coming on so I told the nurse I think I’m ready. But she said jangan push lagi..its not the time yet. Tunggu punya tunggu..and the contraction is becoming unbearable and I can already feel the urge to push. It really feels like you want to pass motion (sorryla dulu amik epidural, so tak rasa apa-apa) but the dr. still tak sampai. Ughhhh. Frustnya masa tu. But I gotta say the nurse was really really helpful. She asked me to lie sideways to reduce the urge. And she even stick her hand inside down there to make sure I dont push. The gas helps too 🙂 Oh the gas….sedut like crazy ok!
Once dr sampai je, sekali push…brrrrr…terus baby keluar. I think I was already crowning when she walked into the room. Second push, I could feel the placenta coming out. The nurse straightaway put the baby to my breast to breastfeed. It felt so good to feel the uterus contracting…
And seriously, jahit lepas bersalin is wayyyyyyyyyyyyyy more irritating than giving birth itself. The jahit took a while cos she was pushing out blood clots. Twas a 2nd degree tear. But overall I was just thankful that baby was healthy and everything went smoothly. It took us almost 6 hours to get a room. Ampang Puteri kan selalu jer full. Even then, the only room available was the 2 bedded room. Belasah je la. Baby memang room in sekali. No complaints on the service tho. But if I can give advice, it will be :

Sohonista..The Day After

We had a blast!
For those who went, thank you so much. For those who didn’t please do come to the next event. I’m pretty sure there will be more and more to come. Check us out.

In Utusan Mingguan – Glamour sekejap you!

And another one!

For those who are asking, what is SoHonista? It is actually a national platform to help us to do business online,SoHo style (Small Office Home Office), where we can do business anywhere, anytime. I was so touched when Dato’ Sri Shahrizat recognized the problem we face nowadays, especially young mothers, regarding child care. I truly felt thankful that there are powerful people who are concern about the fact that full time working women are spending more time at work rather than with their children.

Read more here.

And this is where we, the Top Leaders Circle comes in.
Top Leaders Circle is a group of people who does online business. Armed with smartphones and tablet PCs, our business runs 24/7. Isn’t that great! And to top it off, our TLC mentor, Salha Zain is chosen to become the SoHonista ICON! Seriously, it can’t get any better than that rite. You got to learn from the best to be the best!
Honestly, Suraya sendiri memang tak pernah terfikir nak set up bisnes sendiri, nak kerja sendiri. Memang in my mind, I study hard, get good grades and get a good job. That’s it. But bila dah kahwin, dah ada anak, parents pun dah berumur..I start to doubt my decision. WHY am I spending so much time outside of home, when I am needed at home. My family needs me at home. My SON needs me at home.
My little munchkin

For you guys out there who is still searching, looking, wondering how you can stay at home and earn GREAT income, do ask. Because like they say ‘If there is will, there is a way’.

Like what kak Salha cakap in her speech during the SoHonista event. You need to have FOUR things to be successfull.
1 – A Dream : Knowing what you want.
2 – A Mentor : Follow the steps of people who has done it.
3 – A System : A track that keeps us on our feet.
4 – And Action : You have to walk the walk and talk the talk.
Ask me about it.

Do you feel the same way like I do?

Ameda at work

For all the FTWM, I heart you..

For those yang memang full time kerja and breastfeeding, all I can say is, always REMEMBER, we ARE giving the BEST to our baby. Even at work. ada je orang yang tanya, apala Suraya susah-susah nak pump. Susu tin kan ada. Lagi-lagi kita kerja kat hospital, selalu je dapat susu free. My answer is always..tak apa, my milk is also free..hehe.

Memang sangat mencabar to keep up with the pumping schedule. By right. pump every 3 hours. But for those yang kerja at hospitals mesti faham, our time will be determined by patient flow. Selagi tak habis patient, selagi tu la kita tak free. So for me, kadang-kadang ter-stretch la sampai 4-5 hours. Pump pun dalam store. Tapi Suraya rasa agak untung, sebab just next to my room. For mothers yang kena pegi surau, other floors, mungkin agak susah kan.

Since my workplace is very busy, I can only pump twice at work. That was the very main reason why Suraya beli a double pumping electronic breast pump. To save time. I only allocate 10 minutes for pumping. And to date, I don’t keep many stocks of FBM for Hussein, only ada about 50 oz.

Every morning before work, I will feed Hussein. That will be around 8 am. Then at work, first pumping session should be at 11 am. Depends la..kalau sempat. If not around 12 pm. Pump for 10 minutes. I use the AMEDA LACTALINE dual pump. After 10 minutes, Suraya usually finish off with hand expression (Please make sure use the correct Marmet’s technique to avoid tissue injury)  So far, Alhamdullilah, every session akan dapat about 7-8 oz.

Mom’s Precious Cooler Bag
Yield on a good day! And tupperware tempat simpan pump parts
What’s good about Ameda pump ni is tak banyak parts nak cuci. Senang sangat nak assemble. After first session, simpan semua parts dalam tupperware and simpan dalam fridge, no need to wash. And then the next session will be 3 hours later. Usually around 2 – 3 pm. Just take the parts and assemble. Again another 10 minutes and finish off with hand expression. The pump, Suraya tak bawak balik pun. So I don’t have any issues of Ameda being bulky. Memang the purpose is just for pumping at work. To me, its great cos its fast and the yield pun OK. Tapi pump tu tak berat pun. Much smaller than a Spectra. Ad but of course tak boleh la nak compare dengan Medela Freestyle. Harga pun jauh lebih murah !

At home, I pump using my beloved Avent manual. I always opt for tandem pumping. I find that the yield is more. Suraya pump two or three times je kat rumah ; back from work, at night and early in the morning. To me, Insyallah walaupun tak banyak stock, my rotation is still sufficient.

For those looking for pumps, my advice is, always know what you want your pump to do. If you were to carry it around, if you want it to be small, if you need it to be fast..etc. But of course, if you have the budget apa salahnya splurge..hehe.

1100 : Pump time! Simpan susu Hussein.
1200 : Scroll phone tengok gambar Hussein.
1300 : Lunchtime, Hussein tengah buat apa ya?
1400 : Pump time! (To fit in the 3 hour pumping schedule) to make sure susu Hussein cukup.
1500 : Call Mak, Hussein tidur ke? (Mak pesan, tak yah la call selalu)
1600 : Tell funny stories of Hussein to colleagues
1700 : Tak sabar jumpa Hussein!! AKLEH please

Yay!!!!! Dah dapat peluk Hussein!

OK. Let’s hope for a better tomorrow

Not So Funny for Mommy

I came across this in Facebook. Superfunny! Sleeptraining Nightmare! lol

How to Stop Mummy Sleeping Through the Night!

OK, here’s my situation. My Mummy has had me for almost 7 months. The first few months were great. I cried, she picked me up and fed me, anytime, day or night. Then something happened.

Over the last few weeks, she has been trying to STTN (sleep through the night). At first, I thought it was just a phase, but it is only getting worse. I’ve talked to other babies, and it seems like its pretty common after Mummies have had us for around 6 months.

Here’s the thing: these Mummies don’t really need to sleep. Its just a habit. Many of them have had some 30 years to sleep and they just don’t need it anymore. So I am implementing a plan. I call it the
Crybaby Shuffle. It goes like this:

Night 1: cry every 3 hours until you get fed. I know, its hard. Its hard to see your Mummy upset over your crying. Just keep reminding yourself, its for her own good.

Night 2: cry every 2 hours until you get fed.

Night 3: every hour. Most Mummies will start to respond more quickly after about 3 nights. Some Mummies are more alert, and may resist the change longer. These Mummies may stand in your doorway for hours, shhhh-ing. Don’t give in. I cannot stress this enough: CONSISTENCY IS KEY!! If you let her STTN (sleep through the night), just once, she will expect it every night. I KNOW ITS HARD! But she really doesn’t need the sleep, she’s just resisting the change.

If you have an especially alert Mummy, you can stop crying for about 10 minutes, just long enough for her to go back to bed and start to fall asleep. Then cry again. It WILL eventually work. My Mummy once stayed awake for 10 hours straight, so I know she can do it. Last night, I cried every hour. You just have to decide to stick to it and just go for it. BE CONSISTENT!

I cried for any reason I could come up with. My sleep sack tickled my foot. I felt a wrinkle under the sheet. My mobile made a shadow on the wall. I burped, and it tasted like pears. I hadn’t eaten pears since lunch, what’s up with that? The cat said “meow”. I should know. My Mummy reminds me of this about 20 times a day. LOL. Once I cried just because I liked how it sounded when it echoed on the monitor in the other room. Too hot, too cold, just right – doesn’t matter! Keep crying!! It took awhile, but it worked. She fed me at 4am. Tomorrow night, my goal is 3:30am. You need to slowly shorten the interval between feedings in order to reset your Mummies internal clocks.

Sometimes my Mummy will call for reinforcements by sending in Daddy. Don’t worry, Daddies are not set up for not needing sleep the way Mummies are. They can only handle a few pats and shhing before they declare defeat and send in the Mummy.

Also, be wary of the sleep sheep with rain noises. I like to give Mummy false hope that listening to the rain puts me to sleep sometimes I pretend to close my eyes and be asleep and then wait until I know Mummy is settling back to sleep to spring a surprise cry attack. If she doesn’t get to me fast enough I follow up with my fake cough and gag noise that always has her running to the crib.

At some point I am positive she will start to realise that she really doesn’t really need sleep.

P.S. Don’t let those rubber things fool you, no matter how long you suck on them, no milk will come out. Trust me.

Goodbye 2012

A year that has totally changed me. A year that thought me patience, persistence and diligence. An eye opener and a start up for us. The best gift from Allah SWT. Motherhood is really something else. A journey full of surprises that I’ll definitely cherish. May 2013 make me wiser and a better servant.

Hussein’s Aqiqah

My boy is 2 months 🙂

I wanted to do it BIG! Of course la first son kan..Nak buat with the flowers, with the deco, with the candy buffet…

Lawa kan? But no, ours was not like this..

We had a simple, quiet, small scale aqiqah instead. Which I am happy with, no hustle and bustle. Ustaz Fadhil came and gave a tazkirah. A very good one indeed. Regarding how small babies should always be shielded from sihir ‘ain (mata). Ustaz did mention yang sihir ‘ain ni hadith dhaif, but he also adviced us to still take extra precaution.
Sihir ‘Ain comes from pandangan mata orang, sama ada pandangan yang tajam ataupun pandangan kekaguman. So it happens when somebody approaches the baby and compliments them:

“Comelnya baby”, “Putihnya baby”……etc, usually unintentional.

Baby yang terkena sihir ni, selalunya menangis non stop and refuse to drink milk. So it is best if all the compliments dilapik dengan kalimah-kalimah Allah…like:

“Subhanallah..comelnya baby”.

And it is best to read 3 Qul, Surah Al- Fatihah, Ayat Kursi dan surah Al-Nur (Ayat 35) untuk jauhkan dari sihir ‘ain.

Takut jugak bila dengar tazkirah ni. But we hope for the best and mintak Allah jauhkan lah anasir-anasir jahat dari bayi-bayi kecil. Tak sanggup rasanya tengok baby menangis lama-lama…

Got Milk?

Maternity leave ending soon! Yikes
Hayden Christensen – Got Milk?

I need to start pumping!

Putting my Ameda at work. For the first few weeks, was only able to yield about 2 oz per session. Macam sikit kan, sebab tengok orang lain sampai 10 oz! So I start researching on ways to increase milk production.
WE NEED TO EAT
There’s no such thing as dieting when breastfeeding. Haha all the more reason to enjoy food! Of course there are certain food that is known to add milk: ie fenugreek, beans, spinach. For me, lobak putih and kurma works. I guess anything rich in protein and iron is good. Tapi takkan nak makan lobak putih hari hari!
THERE MUST BE DEMAND
This means, we must tell our body that it needs to produce milk. Either by pumping or by direct latching. Of course if we can latch the baby directly it would be better. But in cases where baby can’t direct latch or when baby sleeps all day, we need to pump out the milk so that the body will fill up the breast with milk. Its DEMAND and SUPPLY analogy. It is recommended to empty the breasts at least once in 3 hours.

MAGIC TOUCH

I learned this from a mommy in The Breastfeeding Advocate. At the end of the pumping session, when there’s no more milk, just lighly massage the nipple for about 30 seconds. This will trigger another let down. Then you can hand express your breast. This usually gives additional 2 oz for me.
SURPRISE! SURPRISE!
Premium Beautiful Brasierre with the Far Infra Red also helps increase milk! And true enough, after consistently wearing the full set for one week, my milk production went up to 8 oz per session. I’m loving it!

Just Arrived!

Yes, this just arrived. Soooooo super duper excited!

Jumpsac Orbit : Cornflower on Taupe Straps

Hussein is asleep. If not I would have strapped him on. Babywearing is also one of the few things that I’ve always wanted to do. Ambitious mama la katakan. And again, there a loooot to read about babywearing! haha. All these while I thought it’ll be okay to just get the normal carriers that we see at shops. Bukan tak OK, tapi kalau ada yang lebih bagus, why not invest sikit. Afterall this is for my child and the coming adik adiks…InsyaAllah.

I got this from Mamapanda Store in Facebook. They had 15% off for Jumpsac Orbit at that time. You should know that Jumpsac is a Malaysian brand. *clap clap. Of course it is somewhat cheaper (about half the price) than other imported ssc ie: Ergo, Boba, but I was quite happy when i hear the reviews.

Oh you might wanna read about ‘crotch carriers’ before investing in a carrier. I am no expert, but I made my decision after reading about it. Perhaps I should read more and really write about it. Soon I hope!

Stay tuned for ‘Babywearing Hussein shot’
